In 1984 new passenger terminal facilities were opened at Birmingham International Airport. The passenger terminal facilities had previously been at the Elmdon Terminal Site (since the airport was opened in 1939), on the opposite side of the main runway from the new passenger terminal facilities. Further extensions to the passenger terminal facilities followed, but in 1991 a second passenger terminal was opened and named 'Eurohub' (with the existing passenger terminal being named 'Main Terminal') Birmingham International Airport is located close to the M42 and has easy access to the motorway system.
